How to use CMMs safely and reasonably?
2023-03-17

When using a CMM, pay special attention to operational safety and machine safety. The following 27 items are listed to share with you to ensure safe production and reasonable use of the CMM.

1. Before starting the machine every day, first check that the air supply pressure meets the requirements before opening the control cabinet.

2. Pressure at the triplet: 0.4Mpa - 0.45Mpa (1bar ≈ 0.1Mpa ≈ 14.5psi).

3. Air supply pressure of air source: ≥ 0.6Mpa.

4. When the height of the oil water mixture in the triplet water trap exceeds 5mm, it is necessary to manually drain the water. When the air supply pressure of the machine is normal, but the pressure at the triplet cannot be adjusted to the normal value, it is even more necessary to replace the filter element if necessary.

5. The temperature of the coordinate measuring machine room is maintained at 20 ± 2 ℃ and the relative humidity is 25-75%.

6. The output voltage of the regulated power supply is 220 ± 10V.

7. The outlet temperature of the air source is 20 ± 4 ℃.

8. Before starting the machine every day, clean the three-axis guide rail surface with a high woven cotton cloth dipped in anhydrous alcohol. Do not operate the machine until the guide rail surface is dry. It is strictly prohibited to use alcohol to clean the painted surface and the RENISHAW grating ruler. Please clean the RENISHAW grating ruler with a high woven pure cotton cloth or a small amount of isopropanol.

9. The startup sequence is as follows: first open the control cabinet and computer, enter the measurement software, and then press the servo power button on the control box.

10. Return to the machine zero point after each startup. Before returning to the zero point, first move the probe to a safe position to ensure that there are no obstacles during the probe reset rotation and Z-axis upward movement.

11. When disassembling the probe and measuring rod, use the special tools provided with the machine, and the probe used needs to be calibrated first.

12. If LSP-X3/LSP-X5/TP200 probe is used. When moving the shaft in manual lever mode, press the quick key. When approaching the mining point position, press the slow key.

13. During operations such as rotating the probe, calibrating the probe, automatically changing the probe, and running a program, ensure that there are no obstacles in the probe's running path.

14. When running the program, reduce the speed to 10~30%, and pay attention to whether the running trajectory meets the requirements.

15. When moving and placing workpieces, first move the measuring head to a safe position, and pay attention to the fact that the workpieces cannot collide with the work surface, especially the guide rail surface on which the machine carrier is placed.

16. Steel standard balls that have not been used for a long time need to be oiled for rust prevention.

17. When using the inserts on the granite workbench to fix the workpiece, the torque should not exceed 20 Nm.

18. If any abnormality is found, please first record the error message prompted by the software. Please contact a professional service provider. Do not conduct inspection and maintenance without guidance and permission.

19. Do not install any software unrelated to the CMM in the computer to ensure the reliable operation of the system.

20. The air conditioner should be turned on 24 hours a day, and the maintenance time for the air conditioner is scheduled for autumn to ensure the normal use of the CMM.

It is strictly prohibited for operators to place their heads under the Z-axis during operation.

After starting the machine, first check the Z contact. Check whether the shaft slides slowly up and down. If so, please contact a professional service provider.

During standby and operation, it is prohibited to hold or lean against the main leg or auxiliary leg.

It is prohibited to place any objects on the guide rail surface of the workbench, and do not directly contact the guide rail working surface with your hands.

25. It is prohibited to open the cover or debug the machine by yourself. You must find a professional service provider to handle it.

During the operation of the CMM, be careful that no part of the body is within the guide rail area or operating range of the CMM.

27. It is strongly recommended that customers conduct an annual inspection and accuracy correction every year.
